Beach House

Located in the low lying Camino Del Mar beach area, this project posed an interesting challenge. The site is within the San Dieguito River flood plain, which required that the home’s finished floor be elevated 7 ft above existing grade. Jansen’s design addressed the flood plain requirements and floor area restrictions in a way that still maintains a strong connection between indoor and outdoor living, and maximizes light, air and privacy. The simple design and durable materials were chosen to fit with the neighborhood context, perform well under a marine environment, as well as satisfy the client's desire for a contemporary aesthetic.
