Kensington Commons
Jansen’s most recent mixed-use development is again in the center of historic Kensington, replacing an aging gas station and older dilapidated bungalows. Kensington Commons has 10,000 sf of retail topped by 34 upscale apartments that feature modern amenities and generous outdoor balconies with views, and covered ground-level parking. Despite initial City approval, the project faced strong opposition by neighborhood activists; eventually, through diligent negotiation and strategic compromise in design, Jansen steered Kensington Commons to completion in 2014, overcoming environmental and historic issues in the process. Today the fully-leased building provides wide, tree-lined pedestrian avenues with transit-oriented living as well as much-needed shopping and services (including Stehly Farms organic market, Perlman Clinic, UPS Store, and Kensington Dental) to locals. Jansen’s favorite feature: “Some of our early, fiercest critics now live in our apartments!”
